Farhanul Nihad ("we," "our," or "us") operates the FocusStudy mobile application (the "App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information to provide and improve our services, sync your progress across devices, and offer a personalized study experience.
A. Personal Data (Optional Sign-In)
If you choose to sign in to sync your data across devices, we collect the following personal information via Firebase Authentication:
- Email Address and password hashes (if signing up via email).
- Profile Information (such as your name and profile picture URL, if signing in using Google Sign-In).
- Unique User Identifier (UID) associated with your account.
If you do not sign in, you can still use the App locally, and no personal authentication data will be collected.
B. Study and Activity Data
To provide study statistics, streaks, and progress sync, the App collects and processes:
- Subjects & Tasks: Names of study subjects, task titles, and completion statuses.
- Study Sessions: Start time, duration of study sessions, Pomodoros completed, and associated notes.
- User Statistics & Achievements: Experience points (XP), levels, study streaks, and unlocked badges.
- Custom Music URLs: Playlists or music URLs you manually add for study background audio.
If signed in, this data is securely synced to Google Cloud Firestore. If not signed in, this data remains stored exclusively on your device's local database (Room Database).
C. Usage Data and Analytics
We collect anonymous data about how the App is used via Google Analytics for Firebase to help us diagnose bugs and improve user experience:
- Device information (model, operating system version, unique device identifiers).
- App performance metrics (crashes, session duration, and feature utilization).
2. Permissions We Request
To provide its core study features, the App requests the following permissions on your device:
- Internet Access (
android.permission.INTERNET): Required to connect to Firebase services for syncing data, authenticating users, and retrieving custom study music streams. - Foreground Service (
android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICEandFOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK): Required to keep the study timer active and play background focus music/sounds when the App is in the background. - Vibrate (
android.permission.VIBRATE): Used to vibrate your device to notify you when a focus session or break timer has finished. - Post Notifications (
android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Required to send daily study reminders (streak savers) and timer notifications.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- To Provide and Maintain the App: Track your study timers, calculate XP, and manage tasks.
- To Sync Your Progress: Enable you to access your study history and stats across multiple devices.
- To Personalize Your Experience: Remember your preferred app theme, study goals, and custom music settings.
- To Improve Our App: Monitor usage trends and resolve technical crashes.
- To Communicate With You: Send system alerts, timer completions, and study reminders (if notification permissions are granted).
4. Data Sharing and Third-Party Service Providers
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We use trusted third-party services to support the App's functionality:
- Google Play Services: Used for app distribution, system API services, and basic platform security. (Privacy Policy)
- Firebase Authentication: Handles user sign-in and account registration. (Privacy Terms)
- Google Cloud Firestore: Stores and synchronizes study progress and stats.
- Google Analytics for Firebase: Collects anonymous telemetry and crash reports.
5. Data Retention, Export, and Deletion
Local Data: Data stored locally on your device remains there until you clear the App's storage or uninstall the App.
Exporting Your Data: You can export your full study sessions report directly from the Profile screen using the Export CSV feature to share or back up your data.
Data Deletion: If you have synced your data to our online database and wish to delete your account and all associated synchronized study data, please email us at farhanulnihad@gmail.com. We will delete your Firestore data and authentication account within 30 days of receiving the request.
6. Security of Your Data
The security of your data is important to us. We employ standard security measures and utilize Google Firebase's secure cloud infrastructure to safeguard your information. However, please remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure.
7. Children's Privacy
The App does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will immediately delete this from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
